University of New England 2023-Present Featured More Information

The planning sector is one of Australia’s largest and most dynamic industries, and it increasingly needs graduates who can combine a strong academic understanding with the practical skills required to tackle complex real‑world challenges.

This unit is the first of UNE’s two new capstone offerings designed to build those capabilities. It equips students with workplace‑ready skills that translate directly into a wide range of careers in urban and regional planning.

Through research, discussion, shared learning and hands‑on projects delivered in partnership with industry, students will develop the core knowledge and techniques needed to operate confidently across diverse planning functions.

To date, we have collaborated with the following industry partners:
-Armidale Regional Council
-Tamworth Regional Council
-Penrith City Council
-Anglican Diocese of Sydney
-Merdi Paaki Regional Assembly

Our students have worked on a diverse range of projects, such as:
-Church site redevelopment master plan
-Social and affordable housing delivery framework
-Micro-lot housing feasibility study
-Town centre activation master plan
-Night-time economy strategy
-Village redevelopment master plan
-Beach precinct master plan

We are always excited to collaborate with new industry partners. If you’re interested in working with our urban and regional planning students on a project, I’d love to hear from you. Please feel free to reach out via the contact form on the home page of this website.
