Maturity of the Australian and Chinese Housing Markets: A Comparative Status Review

Housing markets differ significantly across countries due to variations in institutional settings, planning systems, lease law and land‑titling arrangements. This paper develops a conceptual framework for assessing housing market maturity and applies it to Australia and China through a comparative case‑study approach. Drawing on a synthesis of international literature and an evaluation of key structural, regulatory and market indicators, the paper identifies the components of housing market maturity, assesses the current status of both countries and distils lessons to support more transparent, efficient and resilient housing market development.
