Communication is a Fundamental Component of a ‘Good’ Planning System
Clear, concise and comprehensible communication is essential to the functioning of any planning system, yet planning frameworks frequently rely on language that is inaccessible to non‑planners—and at times even to practitioners themselves. This article examines how communication shapes the effectiveness, transparency and legitimacy of planning processes, and argues for more deliberate, plain‑language approaches to improve engagement, understanding and trust across diverse audiences.
